Word 2013 (32 bit) freezing

Mar 10, 2016 - by Ian Hasell

Since Windows released some security updates for Office 2013 in February 2016 we have had several clients complain that Word 2013 32 bit freezes up to the point that it's unusable.

It turns out that Windows update KB3114717 is the main culprit and the best option for now is to remove it.

Here's how: Go to Start > Control Panel > Windows Update. On the left click on 'View update history'. Toward the top you will see a link for 'see installed updates'. Click on it. Then you can search the installed updates for KB3114717. Uninstall it and reboot the computer.

At present we do not know what Microsoft has done to resolve the problems caused, but it might be worth installing all other updates released more recently in case they resolve the problem. If not, remove the update above.
